Heat Wave To Remain Abated From Delhi, Rain -Thundershower During The Week
Apr 28, 2025, 12:56 PM | Skymet Weather TeamDelhi has witnessed day temperatures in excess of 40°C for the last four consecutive days. Surface temperature has been 2°-3°C above the normal, but well short of the heat wave criteria. The base station at Safdarjung recorded a day maximum of 41.3°C yesterday, about 2.3°C above the average. Pentad normal temperature for Delhi at the fag end of the month is 39°C.
For a heat wave, the temperature essentially needs to breach the 43°C mark, which is unlikely. Therefore, the heat wave will stay in abeyance at least for the next one week. The day temperature will drop below 40°C from Wednesday onward and stay put till the end of the week.
A cyclonic circulation is marked over Northeast Rajasthan in the lower levels. Lower-level winds will predominantly remain easterly but light over Delhi.
Accordingly, the surface temperature is neither going to shoot up nor will it drop substantially below 40°C for the next two days. Thereafter, a twist in the weather conditions is likely and oppressive heat may relax over Delhi/NCR.
A western disturbance is likely to arrive over the mountains on 01st May. Another cyclonic circulation will form over West Rajasthan. Under the influence of these features, an east-west trough will extend from North Rajasthan to North Madhya Pradesh across Haryana, East Rajasthan and the Delhi region.
This situation will persist and the east-west trough will have slight oscillation. An uptick in the pre-monsoon activity is likely between 01st and 06th May 2025.
Proximity of trough, changeover to easterly winds, presence of scattered clouds, and increase in the humidity levels will all join together to enhance the pre-monsoon activity over Delhi/NCR. Weather activity will last between 01st and 06th May 2025.
Rain, thundershowers, squally winds, lightning, and dust-raising winds will be the highlights during this spell. The activity will be light on 01st and 02nd May but pick up thereafter. Typical pre-monsoon thunderstorms accompanied by gale-speed winds are likely between the 4th and 6th of May.
Most of the weather activity will be triggered by heat accumulated during the day and culminate in the evening and night. The day temperatures will stay in the high mid-30s, and night temperatures will clock under 25°C during this period.
Earlier, the month of March recorded a mere 1.8 mm of rainfall against 19.1mm. April was further disappointing with just 0.7 mm of rainfall so far against a monthly average of 12.5mm.
No rainfall is likely in April. The month of May is expected to start on a rainy note with scattered showers and mitigated heat—a welcome sign indeed.
