The tale of hot weather and rising temperatures have not remained untold now. Most parts of the country are witnessing heatwave conditions wherein the day temperatures are shooting up and settling close to or above the 40-degree mark.

The rising temperatures have mainly affected the central and western parts of the country including Gujarat which has witnessed a sheer rise in the day temperatures. In a span of 24 hours, the western and southern parts of the state have seen the maximums increasing five to seven degrees.

From April 8 to 9, the day temperature rose to heatwave like conditions. Temperatures which were settling in lower or mid 30’s mounted up to relax at high 40’s. For instance, the maximum temperature in Porbandar was 35.6°C on April 8 which rose to 41.8°C on April 9. During the similar time lapse, Veraval also recorded 34.8°C and rose to settle at 39.5°C, and Diu recorded 31.6°C and mounting to 38.3°C.

Hence, it is noticeable that in a mere time gap of almost 24 hours, the day temperatures went on to increase gradually.

As per Skymet Weather, this sudden change in the temperature profile can be due to a change in the wind pattern.

Earlier due to anticyclonic winds, humid winds from the Arabian Sea were blowing over the region resulting in bringing down the maximums. However, now wind direction has changed and are at present seen blowing from the northeast direction that is from already scorching West Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

These inland winds are very hot and dry in nature and thus result in increasing the mercury levels. Moreover, the similar weather is likely to continue for another two to three days. Therefore, many parts of the state may once again get engulfed under heatwave conditions.
