Heavy to very heavy rain has been lashing several parts of Himachal Pradesh. In last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Una has recorded a whopping 155 mm of rain. Dharamsala and Solan have received 135 mm and 105 mm of rain, respectively.
The capital Shimla also recorded heavy rain of 89 mm during this period. With this the total amount of rain received in the month of July so far has gone up to 298 mm against the monthly average of 333 mm.
The Western Disturbance which is over East Jammu and Kashmir is largely responsible for giving rain in the state. The western end of the Monsoon trough is also active over the region and has now shifted south of Delhi.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the Western Disturbance is likely to give heavy rain over Himachal Pradesh for another 24 hours, raising scare of landslides and floods in the state.
By July 19, the intensity of rain will decrease as the system is likely to move away from the region. But after a short break, a fresh Western Disturbance stationed over North Afghanistan is expected to reach East Jammu and Kashmir by July 21 and again give good amounts of rain in Himachal Pradesh.
With back to back Western Disturbances and good amounts of rain being observed during this period, the rainfall deficit in Himachal Pradesh which stands at 9% (From June 1 to July 16) is expected to scale down. So far in the Monsoon season Himachal Pradesh has witnessed 210.3 mm of rain against the normal average of 230.8 mm.
