After a delayed onset, Monsoon has now covered entire Kerala, Karnataka and most parts of Konkan and Goa. Recently, parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai have also witnessed Monsoon showers.

Since the beginning of June, coastal areas of Karnataka have been receiving continuous moderate to heavy rainfall. In fact, the state has been observing heavy to moderate rainfall in most pockets. Fairly widespread rain and thundershowers have been reported all along the West coast but the intensity of rains is more over Karnataka and North Maharashtra.

The cyclonic circulation which traveled westward from westcentral Bay of Bengal is now lying over Vidarbha. This system has further enhanced the Monsoon surge over the West coast.

Few places in the West coast have also received heavy to very heavy rains. As per Skymet Weather, it is expected that the Monsoon surge will remain active over here for at least a week. Heavy to extremely heavy rains are expected over Coastal Karnataka and northern parts of Kerala during next 2 to 3 days. Normally during Southwest Monsoon, the West coast of the country remains the rainiest region and it receives comparatively more rains than the interior parts.

Parts of West Coast that have been witnessing good rains during the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Sunday include:

Conditions have now become favorable for Monsoon to cover entire West coast.  It is also expected that Monsoon will cover parts of South Gujarat within next few days. For now, we expect some rainfall south coastal Gujarat.
