This has put an end to all the conjectures about a delayed Monsoon onset over Kerala. Skymet Weather has already predicted the arrival of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala on May 28 with an error margin of +/- 2 days. As per weather conditions, it seems that Monsoon would be in sync with Skymet’s projection and would arrive in Kerala by May 28 or 29.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Saturday, Kochi recorded heavy rain to the tune of 35 mm, Kozhikode 28 mm, Alappuzha 22 mm, Punalur 17 mm, Kottayam 11.4 mm, Karipur 9 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 8 mm and Kannur recorded 3 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation lies over the southern parts of Kerala and an upper air trough is extending from this system to South Madhya Maharashtra. Simultaneously, a low-pressure area is marked over southeastern parts of Arabian Sea off coastal parts of North Kerala and South Karnataka. This weather system is likely to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area in the next 24 hours.

In wake of these combined weather systems, warm and moist air mass is affecting Kerala. Henceforth, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected the coastal stations of Kerala over during the next two to three days. In fact, the interior districts of Kerala are also likely to record good rainfall activity.

The maximum temperatures in Kerala which are hovering around 33° C are likely to decrease by 3° C to 4°C. Meanwhile, the minimums temperatures would witness a marginal fall only. Places such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Kochi, Thrissur, Kochi, Kannur, and Kozhikode are likely to record moderate to heavy rainfall activity. In fact, one or two very heavy spells cannot be ruled out.
