Heavy rain in Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya; moderate showers in Arunachal Pradesh likely

northeast post

At present, northeastern parts of the country are the most rain deficient. Generally, the normal rainfall for Northeast India is very high. However, this year extremely heavy rains, except a few occasions have not been witnessed over northeastern parts of the country.

Although the weather conditions have not gone completely dry, but still enough rains have not occurred to bring down the rain deficiency levels.

Reason of these less rains can be attributed to the lack of formation of low-pressure areas over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, which are responsible for good rains over the northeastern states. This year most of the weather systems were formed over Central Bay of Bengal. Thus, reducing rains over Northeast India.

Now, the eastern end of axis of Monsoon trough is likely to shift north, therefore, we expect heavy to very heavy rains over few pockets of Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya. Moderate to heavy rains are expected over Arunachal Pradesh.

Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may also receive scattered rains, these good rains will continue for at least next two to three days, these rains may bring down the rain deficiency level to some extent but as we do not expect this rain episode to continue for longer duration that’s why rain deficiency is expected persist.
