Heavy rain likely in coastal Gujarat, west MP; temperature to rise in Delhi

The low pressure over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Gujarat will continue to influence southwest Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and east Rajasthan. Light to moderate rain will occur at many places in these areas during the next two days. A few places in coastal and south Gujarat could receive heavy rain.

The weather system in Madhya Pradesh is expected to move southwards to be positioned over Gujarat and adjoining Maharashtra. The west east trough (region of intensified moist winds) extends from the Arabian Sea off Gujarat coast to Jharkhand. Under the aegis of both these weather system, rain will increase in Maharashtra especially in the areas close to Gujarat.

The southwesterly and southeasterly winds will continue to fed moisture to the low pressure area over Madhya Pradesh and this will decrease the rain in interior peninsula. Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha and north interior Karnataka during the next two days.

Mumbai will continue to get rain under the influence of the west east trough during the period. Rain will also remain intact over south interior Karnataka (Bangalore) but it will decrease in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Scattered rain is expected in Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu.

The coastal areas of Karnataka and Kerala will receive light rain due to the feeble offshore trough that extends from Karnataka coast to Lakshadweep.

Rain will decrease in east and east central India, yet light rain at a few places will remain a possibility in Jharkhand, north Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh and Orissa as easterly winds will bring moisture to the region. With decrease in rain and clear sky, east and east central India will again witness rise in temperatures in the coming few days.

Due to moisture incursion from easterly winds and rising temperatures, thunder development could take place at one or two places in northwest plains during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, rain will become subdued and weather will become dry with marginal rise in temperatures.

Northeast India especially the northern parts would continue to swelter under the heat as temperatures will remain above average by 5 to 6 degrees. Light rain may occur especially in southern parts of northeast.
