Brief respite from heavy rain in Gujarat

July 29, 2015 4:21 PM |

Gujaratrainfall_PTIHeavy rain in Gujarat that inundated roads and houses with rainwater is likely to take a breather and provide a brief respite to residents for next two days. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Gujarat will observe light rain for next couple of days after which intensity of Monsoon rain is likely to increase.

The deep depression over Rajasthan that was giving heavy to very heavy rain over parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat is expected to weaken within next 48 hours. As it continues to weaken, rain intensity over Gujarat will keep reducing gradually.

Monsoon rain in Gujarat was welcomed as it occurred after a prolonged dry spell that stayed for almost 20 days of July. Though this incessant rain not only gave three digit over several parts of Gujarat, it also reduced the rainfall deficit in Gujarat to a great extent. For instance, the Saurahstra and Kutch region that was witnessing rainfall 20% below than the normal by 26th July, is now standing at a rainfall which is above 25% than the normal. Similarly, Gujarat region was observing rainfall below by 38% than the normal by 26th July which is now mere 4% below than the normal.

Keeping up with the trend, rainfall is likely to maintain the momentum as it is expected to pick up intensity after this Monsoon system dissipates and the Monsoon system over North Bay of Bengal shifts towards Gujarat across Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha. According to Skymet, parts of Gujarat will receive moderate to heavy rain as August begins.
