Heavy rains ahead for Shimla, Manali, Solan; landslide, flooding likely

The state of Himachal Pradesh has been witnessing on and off rainfall activity for the past few days. The frequent appearance of Western Disturbances has been responsible for giving some rains over the region. During the Southwest Monsoon season, some areas have seen a few heavy spells as well.

However, rainfall activity has taken a backseat for now and the region has been witnessing light rains only. However, during the enxt 24 to 48 hours, moderate to heavy rains with isolated very heavy showers will once again make an appearance over many parts of Himachal Pradesh.

In fact, moderate to heavy rain with isolated very heavy spell may occur over many parts over Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahul and Spiti, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan and Una. Not only this, landslide and flooding condition is also possible in a few areas during the aforementioned period.

Presently, a Western Disturbance is seen over North Pakistan and Afghanistan region. This system is expected to move towards the state of Jammu and Kashmir which will be responsible for giving heavy to very heavy showers over the region in the coming days. Also, the northward movement of the axis of the Monsoon trough will also add to the heavy rainfall activity over the region.
