Updated on March 31: Heavy rains lash Pakistan

A fresh Western Disturbance has given widespread heavy rainfall over parts of North Pakistan, while an induced cyclonic circulation has given rain over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan region in India.

In last 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Sunday Sialkot recorded 100 mm of rain, Rawalakot 58 mm, Lahore 48 mm, Gujranwala 36 mm, Murree 28 mm, Kotli 26 mm, Rawalpindi 24 mm and Chakwal 16 mm.

In wake of the system, the temperatures across the region have dropped, bringing relief to the people from the soaring mercury.

According to the latest forecast by Skymet, isolated rain will continue for the next 24 hours, seizing thereafter as the system clears away. As a result the temperatures will once again rise marginally.

Another spell of rain is expected over the region as one more Western Disturbance along with its induced cyclonic circulation is approaching the region. The weather system is likely to affect the region by April 2 extending up to April 5, which is expected to give another spell of widespread heavy rainfall.

Western Disturbances become frequent during winters and are responsible for affecting the weather in the region to a large extent. These systems after approaching the region usually stay for 1-2 days and give short spells of rain. The system is called Western Disturbance due to its movement from west to east.
