Rain in Assam

During the last 24 hours, fairly widespread rain and thundershowers were seen over the northeastern states of our country. Moderate rain with few heavy spells has occurred in wake of a Low-Pressure Area which was persisting as a Depression over Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Like significant rains of 104 mm have been recorded in Haflong of Assam, Guwahati witnessed 92 mm of rain, and Silchar 44 mm.

Today also as per the experts, scattered light to moderate rains will continue over Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, East Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh.

While scattered rains can be seen over Mizoram and Tripura. The weather of West Assam will eventually start clearing up whereas today the rain activities will be light with chances of lightning strikes and strong winds. The intensity of rainfall is likely to drop after Sunday, as the low-pressure loses steam. Still, scattered light rain with isolated heavy spells cannot be ruled out. It is expected that rain intensity to be moreover Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on October 27. From October 28 onward, rains will significantly take a dip from entire northeast India. Post that dry weather conditions will be a sight and we can say that this will be the last good spell for the northeastern states of our country in the month of October.

Since the start of October, five Northeastern states (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Sikkim) have experienced ‘deficit’ rainfall as compared to the normal average, while Manipur has experienced a ‘large deficit’. However, with these heavy rains, the statistics are likely to change.
