Heavy showers for Kerala, northern parts more than the southern ones

Kerala rains

The state of Kerala has been receiving reasonable pre-monsoon activity this season. Very few sub-divisions have exceeded the normal quota and Kerala nearly tops the list. Between 01st March and 25th April, the state has received 167mm of rainfall against the normal of 116.7mm, seasonal surplus by 43%. Past 24hr also the state measured double the normal with an excess of 96%.

Kerala is fast preparing for the monsoon also and it is barely a month away. Monsoon sometimes knocks earlier than its usual date of 01st June. Even the pre-monsoon in May is much heavier than April and many a time becomes difficult to distinguish between the pre-monsoon and monsoon. Rainfall in May is more than double of April and in June it shoots to be the rainiest and becomes 3 times of May.

Presently a North-South trough is running across the central peninsula keeping the state of Kerala in its close proximity to the left of it. Moist winds from the Arabian Sea are supplementing energy and the mountain ranges are providing the trigger to the thunderstorm activity. This situation is likely to persist for the next few days and intermittent showers can be expected for the state till the month-end.

The northern half of the state possibly will have a bigger share than the south. Most favorite places for the next few days are going to be Kannur, Kozhikode, Kasargod, Wayanad, Mallapuram, Kottayam, and Thrissur. Most of the weather activity is expected to be in the late afternoon, evening, and early night.
