Humid winds from east to give some relief and trigger pre monsoon activities over North India

May 1, 2022 11:24 AM |

Between March 1 and April 30, the country has recorded 32% less rain. Northwest India remained large rain deficient with 86% deficiency. Due to lack of pre monsoon activities, heat wave conditions prevailed over both parts of Northwest India in the month of April. In fact, April 2022 is hottest for Northwest and Central India in the last 122 years.

A fresh Western disturbance has approached Western Himalayas. A trough is extending from west Uttar Pradesh to Gangetic West Bengal across south Bihar and North Jharkhand. These weather parameters may be instrumental in triggering pre monsoon thundershower and thunderstorm activities across Indo Gangetic plains.

There may be scattered rain and thunder shower activities associated with thunderstorm over Uttar Pradesh. Isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana North Rajasthan and Delhi may witness mild dust storm or thunderstorm between May 1st and 5th.

These scattered to isolated weather activities may drop the temperature to some extent. Heat wave may abate from some parts of Indo Gangetic plains. Month of May is considered to be one of the hottest months for Northwest and Central India. But we expect on and off pre monsoon weather activities which may give much-needed occasional relief from hot weather conditions.
