India gets temporary relief from heatwave

April 7, 2016 5:03 PM |

HEAT-WAVE IN INDIAAfter reeling under some intense hot weather, country has finally got some temporary relief from heatwave conditions. Day temperatures have registered substantial drop across Central, East and Peninsular India in last 48 hours.

According to Skymet Weather, the relief will continue over the region for next two days. However, day temperatures will continue to settle above 40-degree mark.

At present, parts of West Bengal and Odisha are the only pockets under the grip of heat wave conditions but relief is likely over these places as well during the next 24 hours. Light to moderate rains are likely over the states due to the confluence zone over East India.

Till now Maharashtra, Telangana, Rayalaseema, East Madhya Pradesh, North Interior Karnataka, East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh were under the grip of heatwave. Maximum temperatures across these areas were settling from 42°C to 44°C.

The much-needed respite from scorching heat is on account of the pre-Monsoon showers due to presence of several weather systems.

Strong and cool northwesterly winds from north dipped the mercury over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.

Meanwhile, wind discontinuity can be seen from parts of Maharashtra till Comorin region across Interior Karnataka. This had led to change in wind pattern and has given light rain over Maharashtra, North Interior Karnataka, Telangana and Rayalaseema.

This region is prone to the intense heat during pre-Monsoon season and only gets relief around the onset of Southwest Monsoon in June.
