April 2016 in India turned out to be blazing hot for most parts of the country. So much so that temperatures continued to record above 40 degrees at several places. While Northeast India remained cool with rains lashing the region throughout the month of April, heatwave did not even leave hills of North India from its ambit.
Several areas in the country observed the highest maximum ever recorded. Bangalore lost its pleasant weather crown; Chennai remained hot and dry; Maharashtra continued to be under the tight grip of severe drought conditions and severe heatwave in Telangana claimed scores of lives.
East India continued to witness hot days with maximums soaring way above the normal levels. Kerala, which usually remains comfortable in April, was also in the grip of heatwave. So much so that Kozhikode recorded the hottest day ever during the month of April.

Severe heatwave in April forced schools to be closed before their scheduled time. Air conditioners were put to use more than usual. Not only were the day maximums sky high, but the average temperature in April was also way more than the previous years.
