Intense Monsoon Rain in offing for Northeast India

More Rain the offing for Northeast IndiaWhile most parts of West and North India have been experiencing less rainfall activity, Northeast India on the other side observed good Monsoon showers in past few days.

In the last 24 hours since 8:30 am on Friday, Hasimara received 100 mm of rain, Kokrajhar (124 mm), Itanagar (45.2 mm), Pasighat (131.3 mm), Dhubri (23.6 mm), Dibrugarh (36.4 mm), Barpeta (18 mm), Damthang (55.8 mm), Mangan (66.3 mm), and North Lakhimpur (16 mm).

A Monsoon trough is extending from the foothills to the Bay of Bengal, and the other arm is moving towards the Northeast. Also, a Northsouth trough is extending from the sub-Himalayan West Bengal to the north Bay. These systems will give widespread rain with heavy to very heavy intensity over Northwest Assam. Scattered moderate rain is expected over the plains.

Sikkim and sub-Himalayan West Bengal will also receive good rain. Arunachal Pradesh will observe moderate rainfall over the plains with isolated heavy showers over the hills. Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Nagaland are also expected to get light scattered rain in some parts of the aforementioned states.

After landslides affecting Darjeeling, heavy showers may cause landslides over some parts of Sikkim as well.
