Rain in Bikaner, Jaisalmer

A fresh Western Disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayas on March 13, which would once again give rains over West Rajasthan. Places like Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh would witness light rains with moderate spells over one or two places. Whereas, light rains would be a sight over eastern districts of the state such as Sawai Madhopur, Bundi, Kota, Chittorgarh and Jhalawar.

On March 14, the Cyclonic Circulation will start to shift towards northern districts, with Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu and Bikaner likely to receive scattered rains. Due to the formation of thunderclouds, isolated pockets might witness a wind speed of 30-40 kmph. According to meteorologists at Skymet, the weather is expected to clear up by March 15.

In the past 24 hours, due to clear weather conditions and commencement of northwest winds, the minimums have dropped by two to four degrees. Due to change in wind direction from northwesterlies to southwesterlies and southeasterlies, the minimums are expected to rise once again on March 13 and March 14. Whereas, March 15 onward, post change in the direction of winds, the minimums would once again drop.

According to the statistics available with Skymet, the winter season for the state of Rajasthan ended on a deficient note of 19%. However, in the pre-monsoon season (March 1-May 31), intermittent rains have occurred over the state which can be attributed to successive Western Disturbances with its induced Cyclonic Circulation over West Rajasthan.

So far in the month of March, rain in Rajasthan is excess by 26%, while West Rajasthan is surplus by 44%. On the other hand East Rajasthan is deficient by 40%. Since a Cyclonic Circulation was stationed over West Rajasthan, the northern and western districts of the state witnessed wet spells. Places like Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh have witnessed more rains.
