Low pressure to give good rains over Kolkata

Monsoon rains have been doing wonders for the Kolkata and also for state of West Bengal that has been witnessing good rains from the last couple of days. The month of July has mainly remained good for the state and also for the capital city Kolkata that has recorded good rains so far.

Though the intensity of rains over the state has been varying from light to moderate with a few isolated heavy showers as well, seldom have most of the districts of West Bengal including Kolkata remained rain-free. The last 24 hours were also rainy for West Bengal including Kolkata. In fact, Diamond Harbour even recorded a three-digit rainfall to the tune of 134.7 mm.

The other districts of West Bengal that have recorded good rains during the similar time frame include Sri Niketan that recorded 83.8 mm of rains, Bankura 76.4 mm, Midnapore 62 mm, Asansol 53.5, Kolkata 42.7 mm, Digha 32.2 mm and Coochbehar witnessed 9.4 mm of rains.

Counting on yesterday’s rains, Kolkata has also surpassed its monthly mean that stands at 396 mm as the capital of West Bengal has already recorded 412 mm of rains.

The reason for these rains as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough that is passing from Gujarat to northeast Bay of Bengal across Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal.

As of now, a fresh cyclonic circulation has developed over South Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coast. The system is likely to intensify and move in the west and northwest direction. On account of its movement, rains are likely to continue over Kolkata and parts of Gangetic West Bengal during the next 48-72 hours.

In fact, heavy spells in the districts such as Bankura, Midnapore and Purulia may also occur. Kolkata will continue to witness overcast sky and rainy spells. But as Kolkata is in the vicinity of Bay of Bengal, therefore, not much relief from the sultry weather can be anticipated.
