Last chance of February rain in Delhi tomorrow, maximums to reduce

The month of February is the rainiest winter month for the national capital. So much so that the monthly rain figures for the city stand at 22.1 mm. On an average, Delhi sees only two rainy days.

The respective systems that cause rains in Delhi are the systems induced by the Western Disturbances. In February, the Western Disturbances are frequent and of short duration and follow the most southward track.

February has seen large variations in terms of rain received in the last ten years. In the last decade, only once has the city received three-digit rains to the tune of 103.1 mm in 2013. Meanwhile, double digit rainfall has occurred twice while the city has seen single digit rains on five occasions.

As long as no rain show is concerned, that too occurred last year when February remained completely dry for the city. This year as well, sky conditions did become overcast, but rains skipped the city altogether. Otherwise also, Delhi has remained completely dry until now.

A fresh Western Disturbance is over Western Himalayas and its induced cyclonic circulation is over Rajasthan and adjoining areas.

Thus, on February 24, i.e. tomorrow, Delhi does stand a chance of receiving some rainfall activity, however, the rains will not be as significant. Sky conditions are expected to be cloudy tomorrow. Thus adjoining areas of Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad are expected to receive rain.

Due to these rains, sky high temperatures of over 30 degrees Celsius that have been causing warmth during the day may also witness some reduction and come settle in the late 20s.
