West Bengal has been witnessing dry weather conditions since many days. Though, occasional light showers were witnessed by the state including Kolkata. However, they failed to calm down the temperatures and relief from discomfort levels.
In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday, Dumdum witnessed 14 mm of rains and Bankura 10.4 mm of rain. Diamond Harbour also recorded light rain to the tune of 1.1 mm of rain.
At present, the axis of Monsoon trough is at presently passing across Gangetic West Bengal through Canning. Therefore we expect scattered rains to continue over parts of Gangetic West Bengal.
Places such as Midnapore, Baripada, Burdwan and Bankura may receive little to moderate spells. It is anticipated that Kolkata will not witness any significant rainfall activities. However, light showers of short duration cannot be ruled out. As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is seen persisting over Northwest Bay of Bengal which will move towards the west.
The moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal over the state will reduce and the weather will once again become dry over many places across the state. However, isolated showers may continue across the state.
These rainfall activities will not contribute much in bringing down relief from the discomfort levels. Sub Himalayan West Bengal, may also receive few spells of light rains. Places such as Siliguri, Jalpiaguri, Cooch Behar and Bagdogra may witness light Monsoon showers.
