Rain in Maharashtra, brief relief from hot weather expected

April 7, 2016 3:00 PM |

Maha rainHeatwave conditions that have been prevailing in Maharashtra, particularly in Vidarbha and Marathwada region, have abated for now. Temperatures were breaking records every other day as mercury refused to settle below 40°C. In wake of this activity, marginal relief from the scorching summer is likely as light rain is expected in Maharashtra for next 48 hours.

Scattered light rain has occurred over Vidarbha and Madhya Maharashtra in last 24 hours. While Pune received 1 mm of rain, Solapur and Kolhapur received 3 mm of rain, respectively since yesterday. This activity of light rain is expected to continue for another couple of days.

A trough running along the West Coast of India is giving this light, scattered rain over Maharashtra. The trough is extending from Marathwada upto Kerala, moving across Madhya Maharashtra and interior parts of Karnataka. Owing to this weather system, scattered rain will continue over Madhya Maharashtra.

Beed, Latur, Osmanabad and Satara districts will receive patchy showers today and tomorrow. However, the intensity will be very light.

Since these Pre-Monsoon showers will be weak in intensity, they will not bring any substantial change in temperatures. The extremely hot weather and current water crisis that has gripped Maharashtra since last few weeks may not alter drastically until Pre-Monsoon showers pick up strength towards the end of the month.
