Light rains to continue in Rajasthan, Gujarat; to increase soon

August 16, 2017 1:30 PM |

Rain in Rajasthan

Apart from witnessing light spells, otherwise the state of Gujarat and Rajasthan have mainly remained dry. Heavy rains like that which had paralyzed both the states have remained absent from showing up in parts of these states.

In the last 24 hours also, scattered light rains had occurred in parts of Southeast and North Rajasthan along with isolated pockets of North Gujarat. Within the span of the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, districts of Rajasthan such as Bikaner recorded 7.6 mm of rains, Churu 3 mm and Chittorgarh recorded 1 mm of rains. During the similar time frame, Deesa and Idar in Gujarat recorded 0.2 mm and 1.7 mm of rains respectively.

As per Skymet Weather, at present, the weather is expected to remain almost dry. Though as the southwesterly and westerly winds that are blowing over the region are incurring moisture from the Arabian Sea, this is thus increasing the moisture content in the atmosphere in parts of both Gujarat and South Rajasthan. Moreover, a cyclonic circulation is over South Pakistan and adjoining West Rajasthan.

On account of these moisture incurring winds and the weather system prevailing, on and off light showers are expected to continue over some parts of Gujarat and in a few pockets of East Rajasthan as well.

Moreover, Skymet Weather reiterates that another cyclonic circulation is expected to travel from Odisha coast to southwest Madhya Pradesh and may intensify further. This weather system will be responsible for increasing rains over South Rajasthan and many parts of Gujarat by August 19.

Henceforth, by August 21 and 22, moderate to heavy rains may also occur at many places over East and South Rajasthan. While Gujarat will have to wait until August 20 for good rains to start occurring. However, initially, these rains will be moderate over Gujarat and are anticipated to increase gradually. By August 22, many parts of Gujarat will start receiving good rains.

Moreover, these rains are expected to continue lashing both the states until August 23. In a nutshell, the districts such as Kota, Udaipur, Chittorgarh and Mount Abu in Rajasthan, while Idar, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar in Gujarat may witness moderate showers with one or two heavy spells. Although the situation is not alarming for inundating roads that were in the month of July.
