Loo tightens its grip in Gujarat

April 23, 2015 11:12 PM |

Summers in GujaratLoo has swept across most parts of Gujarat, leaving people to reel under immense hot weather conditions. Loo is defined as the combination of winds and high temperatures.

In the absence of any weather activity, maximum temperatures have registered a significant increase, especially in the interior parts of Gujarat and are now settling in early 40’s. Even nights are not pleasant anymore as minimum temperature is recording in mid-20s.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the state has a long coastline along the Gulf of Kutch and Arabian Sea, due to which it experiences sea breeze in the coastal parts. However, by the time it reaches interior parts of the state it loses its characteristics. Hence, breeze coupled with high temperatures results in loo.

Let us have a look at the day temperatures across the state recorded during the last few days:

Maximum temperatures in Gujarat

Please note: Temperatures in °C

The state has not witnessed any weather activity since April 16. Also, the region is experiencing pre-monsoon season during which it is not expected to witness any rain.

As per the latest forecast, there will be no respite from the scorching heat as the state will continue to witness similar weather during the coming days.

Gujarat is one of the hottest pockets in the country. The geographical nature of the land is semi-arid that attracts high temperatures.
