Low pressure area off AP coast to bring widespread rain in south

September 8, 2013 4:39 PM |

A low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast is  expected to trigger fairly widespread rain throughout the entire south peninsula during the next two to three days.

The moisture-laden easterly to southeasterly winds from the Bay will blow along the trough(region of intensified moist winds) that continue to persist from north Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu.

The weather system will travel west-southwestward from its present position to cause rain at many places from Orissa to Tamil Nadu across Andhra Pradesh.

After entering land from east coast, these rain bands will lash Telangana, Vidarbha, Marathwada in south central peninsula. They will also precipitate over interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and adjoining Tamil Nadu in coming 48 to 72 hours.

In north India, rain will remain scanty in the plains over Punjab, Haryana and west Uttar Pradesh. Some rain may also occur in Delhi during the next two days. The southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea will reach the region. The same winds will also give rain in Gujarat and south east Rajasthan on the way.

In east India, the moist winds from the Bay of Bengal have intensfied and continue to hit the hills of Himalayas in east Uttar Pradesh, north Bihar and sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Fairly widespread rain is expected in the region during the next two days.

The same surge of southerly to southeasterly winds will be experienced in northeast region. Rain may occur at many places with heavy intensity at one or two places in both these regions.
