Rain in Odisha and Chhattisgarh

The states of Odisha and Chhattisgarh experienced scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers with few heavy spells during the last 24 hours. In fact, northern parts of Odisha observed moderate to heavy rains, such as Jharsuguda recorded 59 mm of rain.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Balasore recorded 27.4 mm of rain, followed by Chandabali 23.6 mm, Rajnandgaon 20.4 mm, Angul 16.6 mm, Baripada 15.6 mm, Talcher and Bolangir 6 mm, Koraput 5.6 mm, Paradip 4.1 mm and Cuttack 3.9 mm.

In the wake of these rains, significant fall in day temperatures was observed over most parts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh and the sky conditions remained cloudy to overcast.

At present, the low-pressure area lies over Northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining region. Its associated cyclonic circulation is extending up to 7.6 km and tilting southwestwards. This weather system would be intensifying into a depression after 48 hours. It would be moving west/northwestwards.

Due to the influence of this system, most parts of Odisha will witness moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers accompanied with strong winds during the next two to three days. Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh will also get affected by the above system. The southern parts of Chhattisgarh are getting affected by the cyclonic circulation. And this system would also merge with the above weather system. Hence, during the next 24 hours, moderate rains will occur over parts of Chhattisgarh.

Thereafter, rain intensity will increase as these weather systems will be approaching Odisha. During that period, places like Bhubaneswar, Balasore, Angul, Keonjhargarh, Puri, Ganjam, Raigarh, Titlagarh, Nabrangpur, Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur and Jagdalpur will witness moderate to heavy rains.

The coastal stations of Odisha will witness very rough sea conditions. therefore, people and especially the fishermen are advised to take precautions and stay away from the sea during that period.
