Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi to receive rains anytime now

The state of Uttar Pradesh did receive a few good spells of rain two days ago. In fact, Lucknow recorded a whopping 60 mm of rain giving residents major relief from hot weather. However, the city and other parts of Uttar Pradesh have been dry during the last 24 hours.

Currently, a trough is passing through Northwest Rajasthan to Bay of Bengal across Uttar Pradesh. Due to this, scattered thunderclouds have developed over many parts of Uttar Pradesh including Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad and Varanasi.

Light rainfall activity is expected for short duration across Lucknow and some localities of Kanpur. However, Varanasi and Allahabad may not receive good rains. The possibility of some thundershowers in the nearby areas cannot be ruled out.

Now, this trough is expected to shift towards the foothills and during the next two to three days, weather of most parts of Uttar Pradesh will be dry except the foothills where scattered rains are possible.

Rainfall intensity over Uttar Pradesh is expected to increase around June 27. During that time, many districts will start receiving good rainfall along with isolated heavy spells.

Thereafter, Southwest Monsoon will also make progress towards Uttar Pradesh. Southwest Monsoon has already spread its wings across Bihar and Monsoon rains have begun to lash Patna and its adjoining areas.

Usually, Monsoon covers half of Uttar Pradesh by June 15. However, this year due to slow progress of eastern arm of Monsoon, there hasn’t even been one city in Uttar Pradesh where Monsoon has made its onset.
