Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Ambala to record more Monsoon rains

The weather over most parts of Punjab and Haryana remained mainly dry in the last many days. However, northern districts of both the states have been receiving scattered light to moderate rains.

Places like Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar and Patiala in Punjab; while Ambala, Karnal, Yamunanagar and Chandigarh in Haryana have been observing good showers.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Pathankot recorded rains to the tune of 5 mm, followed by Karnal 4 mm, Ludhiana 4 mm, Patiala 3 mm, Ambala 3 mm and Jalandhar 1 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, the axis of Monsoon trough is presently running from Southwest Punjab to Bay of Bengal across Delhi. Moreover, a Western Disturbance is marked over Jammu and Kashmir.

As a result, we can expect light rains with a few moderate spells to continue over the foothills of Punjab along with northwestern districts of Haryana. Heavy to very heavy spells are not expected at least for the next 2 to 3 days. The rains that will be showing up will also be of short duration.

During the similar time frame, western parts of Punjab and Haryana like Bathinda, Ferozpur, Moga, Sirsa, Bhiwani and Hisar may not witness any rain activity.

As on August 7, the state of Punjab is rain deficient by 6 percent and Haryana by 11 percent.
