Maharashtra election 2019: Pune to observe moderate rain with short intense spells on polling day

October 21, 2019 9:23 AM |

Rain in Pune

Moderate rain and thundershower activities have been lashing Pune lately. Intense spells have also been recorded in some parts during the last two to three days. Likewise, many other cities of Madhya Maharashtra have been observing good rain and thundershower activities.

These rains can be attributed to the Well Marked Low-Pressure Area over the East Central Arabian Sea off Maharashtra Coast.

According to our meteorologists, the above system would move in north/northeast direction and later intensify into a Depression. Although this system would gradually move away from the Maharashtra Coast and track its way in the northwest direction towards Oman, the movement would result in moderate rain for another two days over Pune.

Thus, the city and adjoining areas would observe moderate rain and thundershower activities coupled with one or two short intense spells during the next 24 to 48 hours. This might pose some difficulty in the ongoing election process.

However, due to the rain warning, already arrangements have been made to tackle the situation. The polling stations have been water-proofed, as revealed by Collector Naval Kishore Ram.

Throughout this episode, the weather will be cloudy and temperatures will remain in a comfortable zone.

Usually, rains start receding as we enter into the month of October. However, the ongoing spell is an exception as Pune and many other parts of Madhya Maharashtra have been observing good post Monsoon showers lately.
