The Government of Maharashtra has declared drought in 150 “Talukas”. The immediate relief measures to tackle the situation have also been ordered in a bid to overcome this grave situation. For the last many years, Maharashtra has been topping the list of reporting highest number of farmer suicides due to crop failure.

Maharashtra has been battling prolonged dry spell for many days. After few rains in Monsoon, October too started on the similar note. Vidarbha has not witnessed any rains throughout October and remained largely deficient by 99%. In the coming week too, there are no chances of any rains over Vidarbha.

Parts of North Madhya Maharashtra and North Konkan & Goa have remained highly rain deficient.

Talking about the city of dreams “Mumbai”, no heavy showers were witnessed over the city since October 18 apart from light isolated rains over some pockets. Although few pockets of the state are likely to record some rain in the coming days but no major change in the weather of Maharashtra and more or less, state would continue to battle dry weather.

Prolonged dry spell that had gripped Maharashtra for the entire October now might see some relief.  According to Skymet Weather, scattered rains are expected over North Madhya Maharashtra and North Konkan & Goa. Cities like Pune, Nashik and Mumbai are all set to record good rains around November 3 and 4.

These rains would be result of a trough which is likely to develop from Karnataka to North Madhya Maharashtra. However, this rain episode will not last for long and soon, weather will once again go completely arid. Thus, dry weather will once again take over the entire state November 5 onward.

However, isolated light rains cannot be ruled out over Marathwada, but there will be no change in the weather over Vidarbha that would continue to battle dry and hot weather conditions.
