Updated on March 15, 2016 11:00 AM (IST): Maiden spell of Pre-Monsoon showers approaching Peninsular India

Peninsular India is all set to witness its first spell of pre-Monsoon rains of the season. These showers usually start making an appearance in the beginning of March itself but this year, the region has remained dry till now.

With this, day temperatures have been settling well above normal making Peninsular India the hottest pocket of the country. Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh recorded maximum temperature of 40.6°C on Monday, which was four degrees above normal.

However, we can now expect some rains during next 2-3 days, commencing from today. According to Skymet Weather, a combination of several weather systems is impacting the weather of Peninsular India.

A cyclonic circulation is seen over Vidarbha and adjoining areas and a trough is extending from this system up to Kerala across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

In addition to this, an anti-cyclonic circulation is marked over Coastal Odisha and Andhra Pradesh off the Bay of Bengal. The two opposing winds from both the systems have led to a formation of confluence zone over Peninsular India.

All these systems will be responsible for the giving rain over Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala.

According to Skymet Weather, the intensity of rain for most of the time will be confined to light only. Since the pre-Monsoon showers generally occur during the late afternoon or evening hours, it will not be able to bring much relief from soaring mercury.

However, the cloud cover will lead to a drop in day temperatures by 2-3 degrees. However, weather will remain hot and humid.
