Mandi Landslides: 46 dead, 5 injured, heavy rains and landslides likely

in the Mandi landslide incident, as per media reports, 46 dead bodies have been recovered and 5 injured people have been sent to the nearby hospital. Heavy rain of 75 mm occurred in Dharamsala district. The NDRF teams and the army are still carrying out rescue operations. Landslides may occur again due to hefty rainfall activities.

In the state of Himachal Pradesh, an unfortunate landslide incident took place in Kotroopi area of Mandi district. It has been reported that during the early morning of August 13, two Himachal Pradesh buses were washed away. The buses were carrying about 50 passengers. As soon as the incident got reported the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Indian army had reached the point of incident and had started with the rescue operations.

Even heavy earth moving machines have been deployed which are helping in rescue operations and in removing the debris which has occupied more than 250 meters. The national highway has been blocked. As per media reports, 45 bodies have been recovered out of which 25 have been identified. The death toll is rising every hour, however, the rescue operations are on hold currently as it has been anticipated that landslides could occur anytime again.

The operations are likely to start again tomorrow morning. During the day, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Mr. Virbhadra Singh along with the transport and health minister had visited the incident spot. They have also declared a relief fund of 4 lakh rupees each for the family of the dead and 1 lakh each for the injured.

The Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi also made his condolences. During the next 24 hours also, it is anticipated by Skymet Weather that rains are likely to continue over Himachal Pradesh, which may lead to more such landslide incidents and hence it is advised not to make any plans to travel to the hilly region of Himachal Pradesh.
