Mercury in Mumbai drops, brings much needed relief

Mumbai Summer 1

In the last 2 days, weather conditions over Mumbai and adjacent areas saw extreme uneasiness that made daily life tough. With dry weather in place and hardly any humidity over the region, the maximum temperatures mounted up to 38.4°C on March 28.

But temperatures dropped considerably as it trickled down to 32.8°C on March 30. This is due to the change in wind direction from northerlies to westerlies. These winds are infusing moisture that has managed to cut down the mounting temperatures. The maximum temperature of 32.8°C is 1 degree below the normal level, which is remarkable as two days back the temperatures were 6-7 degrees above normal.

At 39.6°C, Delhi blisters with heatwave conditions

But minimum temperatures did not see any drop. In fact the minimum temperature recorded was 25°C which is 2 degrees above normal. This means that the days are comparatively less hotter but the night continues to remain on the warmer side.

But this drop in maximum temperatures is not going to last long as dry and hot winds from north direction will pick up pace. Once again, the temperatures are expected to rise back to higher 30 degrees, around 38°C-39°C. This unrelenting heat will persist for 2-3 days. And by April 3, temperatures will again persist in the mid-30s over the region.
