Mercury Level To Rise Over North India But No Heat Wave, Mostly Dry Weather Likely

April 5, 2023 1:29 PM |

Most parts of North India, covering Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh started on a wet note in April. Weather conditions are expected to change. Mostly clear sky, plenty of sunshine, light to moderate breeze, morning nip in the air and better air quality are likely over next one week. Absence of weather activity will lead to rise of mercury levels.

Feeble western disturbance is moving across the mountains of North India over the next 2 days.  Mild weather activity will remain confined to the hills of the mountainous states. A weak cyclonic circulation is marked across the border and an east-west trough runs across northern parts of Rajasthan.  A narrow streak of clouds may appear with this today and disappear by tomorrow. Isolated light drizzle is likely with this system. Another interruption on account of small scale circulation over south and east Rajasthan is likely on 07th and 08th April. Barring this activity, other northern plains will witness cloud free sky till 10th April.  Layer of clouds may come up later restricting sunshine on 11th and 12th April.

Next one week is going to be lean weather period for plains of North India. Day temperatures are below the normal over the entire region, in mid 30's over Rajasthan and low 30's over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh.  Mercury is expected to rise by 3-4 degree, catching up with the normals for the region.  However, no extreme conditions are likely, at least for the next one week. Mercury spike will get restricted to just high 30's over West Rajasthan and low to mid 30's over rest region of northern plains. National capital, which has persistently remained well below the averages in April so far, will see a rise of 3-4 degree. Day temperatures may get capped at 35degree or less over most parts of Delhi/NCR. No heat wave is likely  over the region till mid April.
