Further Drop in Delhi Temperature Expected in Next Week, Image: Business Today

After having a rise in the mercury levels at the start of the week, mild cold has returned for the second time in this month for Delhi. The base observatory at Safdarjung has recorded a minimum of 10.4°C today, the normal at this time of the month.  Earlier, the lowest minimum of 10.2°C, so far, in this month was registered on 21st Nov 2024. Mercury level in Delhi will hang around 10°C for the next two days and rise thereafter.

A western disturbance will approach the northern mountains on 29th Nov. Actually, there are two systems in quick succession, nearly overlapping with each other and moving across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The major impact will, once again, remain confined to the mid and higher reaches. Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Sonamarg regions will have fresh snowfall between 30th Nov and 03rd Dec 2024. The lower hills like Srinagar, Awantipur and Shopian will have light rainfall on 30th Nov and 01st Dec 2024. Broad clearance over the mountains is expected on and after 05th Dec.

A marginal fall in the temperature is expected over Delhi/NCR over the next two days. Thereafter, the westerly systems will arrest any further fall for the subsequent 4-5 days. Also, the impact of the cyclonic storm, otherwise very far over the southern parts, will pump warm and moist easterly winds over the central parts. The ripple effect will mildly reach over Southwest Uttar Pradesh, Northwest Madhya Pradesh and Delhi region. Under the combined influence of easterly and westerly systems, the typical winter may still have to wait in the wings for the national capital.

Delhi has not received any rainfall, since the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon. October and November have remained completely dry. There is no rainfall expected for the next two weeks or so. Yes, the temperatures will drop after 05th December 2024. Mercury is expected to plunge into single digit, for the first time in this season, during that period.
