Mild relief from fog in Delhi but rail and air traffic still in disarray

Fog In DelhiThe dense fog observed in Delhi on Thursday finally subsided on Friday morning. The capital woke up to shallow fog with visibility at 300 meters. No fog was observed in Dwarka, Faridabad, Model Town, and Noida Fortis area. Whereas only shallow fog engulfed the areas of Laxmi Nagar and Noida Expressway.

However, air traffic continued to take a beating due to widespread fog cover. Seven departure flights were cancelled while eight were delayed. In addition to this, eight arrival flights were cancelled with eight running behind schedule due to prevailing fog.

The receding fog cover continued to affect rail traffic as well. A total of 181 trains were delayed due to hovering fog. Some of these trains (with their approximate delay time) include: Kolkata Rajdhani (delayed by 6 hours), Patna Rajdhani (delayed by 11 hours), Seldah Rajdhani (delayed by 8 hours), New Delhi Howrah Express (delayed by 9 hours), Vikramsheela Express (delayed by 12 hours), Mahabodhi Express (delayed by 13 hours), Gomti Express (delayed by 8 hours), and Sampark Kranti Express (delayed by 5 hours). Also, nine express trains were cancelled due to foggy conditions. Some of the major express trains cancelled include Shaheed Express, Delhi Fazilka Express, NDLS Intercity (Rohtak), and UPS Kranti Express.

Meanwhile, dense fog was observed in Agra on Friday as visibility in the city dropped to nil. Similarly, Gwalior witnessed dense fog with visibility reducing to nil. Very dense fog was also reported in the city of Amritsar. Gaya reported a visibility of 800 meters while visibility at Patna was reported at 100 meters only. Lucknow experienced shallow fog with a visibility of 500 meters. Also, Allahabad reported visibility at 800 meters, Varanasi at 600 meters, and Chandigarh at 500 meters.
