The Eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have been receiving good rain and thundershower activities from the last two to three days.
In fact, during the last 24 hours, few heavy spells of rain occurred over Southeast Madhya Pradesh and South Chhattisgarh. For instance, Malanjkhand in Madhya Pradesh recorded 48 mm of rain while Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh witnessed 50 mm of rain. Many other parts also recorded moderate rain and thundershower activities during the same period.
In contrast, the western parts of Madhya Pradesh remained dry. Places like Guna, Shivpuri, Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Ratlam have not experienced any weather activity so far.
These rains were due to a trough extending from Uttar Pradesh up to Telangana across East Madhya Pradesh. The southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal were also feeding moisture to these states. Cold winds from North have commenced in many parts of Madhya Pradesh leading to a significant drop in the minimum temperature.
Talking about the current weather system, a trough has now moved away eastwards. A drop of 3-4 degrees Celsius is likely in West and Central Madhya Pradesh. While a marginal drop has already occurred in the eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh.
Now, we expect that the minimums of East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will also drop by January 11. The weather is likely to remain clear now in both the states but the cold winds will blow from the Western Himalayas leading to an increase in the winter chill.
From January 12, the wind direction will change once again from northerly to southeasterly in Madhya Pradesh and easterly-northeasterly winds in Chhattisgarh. In the wake of the changing wind pattern, the minimum will once again increase by 2-4 degrees Celsius.
