Since last few days Monsoon has remained subdued over Northeastern States of India. But now during last 24 hours, the intensity of rains has increased significantly and fairly widespread rain has been observed these parts with heavy rain recorded at one or two places.
Now a cyclonic circulation is over Assam and Meghalaya. Due to this weather system heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during next 24-48 hours.
After 48 hours rain intensity will decrease as this cyclonic circulation will become insignificant and intensity of rain will start increasing over East and Central parts of the country.
Northeastern states of India normally receive heavy rainfall during Monsoon season and its monthly average for many stations is more than 1000 mm. However till now most parts of the Northeast India are rainfall deficient with Assam and Meghalaya being 39% rain deficient. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are 41% rain deficient.
The out of all the states in the region it is only Arunachal Pradesh that is least deficient with 13% rain deficiency, but entire Northeastern states of India are still below average rainfall. As per Skymet Weather for the next few days, this rain deficiency will maintain itself.
The good rains are expected to continue for the next 48 hours may decrease the deficiency slightly, but it is not expected to reach near normal for next one week or so.
Monsoon prediction of Skymet Weather for Northeastern States of India is also slightly less than normal.
