Monsoon 2018: September rain deficiency to be second highest in seven yearsThe month of September is the withdrawal month when Southwest Monsoon bids adieu. Invariably Monsoon withdrawal varies from season to season and rainfall pattern is directly dependent on the withdrawal.

In case the withdrawal commences in the beginning, the rainfall recorded in September is quite less and vice versa if withdrawal is slightly late. The past years have seen both above normal and below normal rainfall.

However, in the last seven years, the shortfalls in terms of rainfall have been more as compared to the surplus rains. The current year is also heading towards shortfall as far as September is concerned.

In fact, the largest shortfall has been seen in the year 2015 when the country saw below normal rains which was deficient to the tune of -24 percent. This time, September is likely to fall of breaking this record by a slender margin only. All thanks to both Cyclone Daye and the Western Disturbance which were the saving grace from the country seeing deficiency above 20 percent.

Now also, it does not look like rains are going to be on the higher side which will help in improving the deficient figures.
