Monsoon all set to retreat from West Rajasthan, rains to continue in East Rajasthan

September 5, 2018 3:40 PM |

rajasthan scanty rainfall

Rajasthan has been recording on and off Monsoon rains during the last 24 hours, particularly eastern parts of the state. Intensity of these showers has been ranging from light to moderate, with few heavy spells.  In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Bharatpur saw 63 mm, followed by Alwar with 24 mm, Churu 25.7 mm, Kota 4.4 mm, Sawai Madhopur 5.5 mm and Tonk 5.5 mm.

This year, western districts of Rajasthan have not received enough rains and has been almost dry for the last one week. However, East Rajasthan is present in the normal rain category with only 4% deficiency whereas West Rajasthan is deficient by 21%.

Since the time of Monsoon-withdrawal has come, therefore commencement of rains is expected from Western parts of Rajasthan anytime soon. Thus, we do not expect any rain activity over West Rajasthan such as Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur and Phalodi.

On the other side, we expect on and off rains to continue over East Rajasthan until September 9 or 10 but the overall rain intensity will be on a lower side.

According to Skymet Weather, after September 10, winds over eastern parts of Rajasthan will start blowing from northwest direction, making way for the withdrawal of Monsoon from the East Rajasthan as well.

The state of Rajasthan has been divided into two sub-divisions known as East Rajasthan and West Rajasthan. Even though the annual rainfall differs largely over both the sub-divisions, East Rajasthan receives almost double the rains as compared to West Rajasthan.
