After a long wait, Southwest Monsoon 2017 finally spread its wings up to the Northern Plains as well as the hills of the country. With this, several cities including Delhi, Lucknow, Agra, Kanpur, and Shimla finally got the taste of Monsoon rains.
While some areas did receive good rains, others witnessed light Monsoon rains. However, it was the cities of Lucknow and Agra in Uttar Pradesh where hefty Monsoon rains were observed. In fact, rains in Lucknow caused way much chaos than it usually does. The city witnessed heavy to very heavy rains in the last 24 to 48 hours resulting in traffic chaos as well as waterlogging in many parts.
In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Lucknow recorded a whopping 92 mm of rainfall. Also, Agra during the same time frame, Agra received a whopping 62 mm of rain. Adjoining areas witnessed light rainfall activity including Kanpur, Fursatganj received good rains.
These rains are attributed to the presence of a trough which is running in the proximity of Uttar Pradesh. A cyclonic circulation is over Haryana and adjoining areas.
Moderate to heavy rains are expected over eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh during the next two to three days. Other parts will also receive good showers in the coming days.
