Monsoon covers most parts of Northeast India, heavy showers in parts

Monsoon 2019 hits Northeast India

Southwest Monsoon has made an advancement over many parts of Northeast India. Moderate to heavy rains have been lashing the region with the last 24 hours seeing similar weather conditions. Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have seen moderate to heavy showers with very heavy rainfall in isolated pockets. Rest of Northeast India saw light to moderate rains.

Today, Monsoon further advanced into most parts of Northeast India with the Northern Limit of Monsoon now passing through the cities of Goalpara, Alipurduar, and Gangtok.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Tezpur witnessing 72 mm of rainfall, Pasighat 65 mm rains, Majbat 47 mm, North Lakhimpur 46 mm, Silchar 20 mm, Goalpara 12 mm, Dibrugarh 23 mm, and Guwahati 7 mm.

An upper Air Cyclonic Circulation is persisting over eastern parts of Bihar while an upper air system is extending from this system to Gangetic West Bengal. Thus, moisture incursion has been taking place over many parts of Northeast India.

Thus, light to moderate rains are expected to witness light to moderate rains with southern parts of Assam witnessing heavy showers as well. Temperatures will see a reduction in view of these rains with maximums settling between 30 and 32 degrees. These rains are beneficial for coconut and rice crops.

Southwest Monsoon will further make an advancement over the rest of Northeast India in view of favorable conditions.
