Monsoon Depression Likely Over Gujarat, Enters Arabian Sea Later

September 29, 2021 12:34 PM |

Remnant of cyclone Gulab now lies over central Gujarat and North Madhya Maharashtra as well marked low pressure area. It also manifest as cyclonic circulation up to medium tropospheric levels.  North Konkan (including Mumbai), North Madhya Maharashtra, South Gujarat ( including Surat) and Most of Saurashtra has been battered with heavy rains during last 24hr.

Chief amounts of rainfall were : Mumbai-100mm, Bulsar-97mm, Surat-93mm, Rajkot-95mm, Bhavnagar-61mm and Jalgaon-60mm. Moderate rains have lashed other parts of state of Gujarat.

Well marked low pressure area is likely to move nearly westward shortly over Saurashtra and Gulf of Cambay. Proximity of this water body and Arabian Sea is pumping enough moisture and the warm surface of the water bodies is supporting intensification of this weather system.  A depression is likely to form soon over the region accentuating weather activity.

Further, this depression is expected to move over cosy waters of Northeast Arabian Sea with a chance of further strengthening to deep depression or even a weak tropical storm. These systems will constantly keep drifting away from Indian coastline and therefore receding the threat of inclement weather conditions from 01st October onward.

Heavy rainfall accompanied with squally winds are forecast for South Gujarat and Saurashtra & Kutch, with rough sea conditions all along the coastline for the next 48hr. Deep depression and storm in the making will move westward, parallel to the Pakistan coastline reaching up to border area of Iran.

Heavy to very heavy rains with gale speed winds are expected over south and southwestern locations of Pakistan along the coast between 01st and 04thOctober.  No intense weather activity is expected over Gujarat from 02ndOctober onward for at least next one week.
