July 7, 2017 3:12 PM |

monsoon_keralaThe Southwest Monsoon in June has ended with the rain surplus of 4%. All thanks to the good spell of rains along the West Coast, Northeast and Central India, particularly during the last week.

Skymet Weather had already predicted June to end with normal rains to the tune of 102%, wherein the cumulative countrywide rainfall was 169.8 mm against the normal of 163.6 mm from June 1 to June 30.

July also began on the rainy note, which maintained the rain surplus, which currently stands at 4% as on July 6. This excess rainfall had peaked from July 2-4 wherein Monsoon rains were surplus by 6%.

Though, rains continue to be excess at present, but decrease in rainfall activities in coming days will bring down the surplus number.

According to Skymet Weather, rains will further reduce and will be confined along the West Coast and Indo Gangetic plains of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar but in lesser intensity.

Rains over most parts of Interior Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will remain subdued for the next 4-5 days. Gujarat, Rajasthan and western parts of Haryana and West Madhya Pradesh will also see scanty rains only.

Rains will not pick up pace over Mumbai for next few days though one odd moderate spell is possible but heavy to very heavy rains will continue to abate.

Hence, we expect countrywide rain surplus may come down to 0 in the next 4-5 days.

Monsoon rains will once again pick up pace over north and central parts of the country by July 11 and by July 13-14 many parts of West Madhya Pradesh, South Rajasthan and Gujarat may witness moderate to heavy rains. However, during this period also, entire south peninsula and most parts of central region will continue with weak Monsoon conditions.
