After a long time, yesterday many parts of Odisha recorded moderate showers with few heavy spells. These rains can be attributed to two weather systems that are the Cyclonic Circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal and another Cyclonic Circulation over the South Odisha coast and North Andhra coast.
As per the available records, in the past 24 hours, Puri received 87 mm of rainfall, Chandbali, Gopalpur, and Koraput witnessed 30.7 mm, 25.7 mm, and 7.8 mm of rains, respectively.
Now, we expect moderate to heavy rains with one or two very heavy spells to occur over South Odisha. Whereas, light to moderate rains will continue over rest parts of the state. Places like Koraput, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi are likely to see heavy Monsoon rains during the next 24 hours. These rains have brought a huge relief for farmers and they have already begun their agrarian works like sowing and plowing activities on a war footing following the rains.
These rain activities will continue till July 28. After a gap of 24 hours, the intensity of rains will dip. However, another spell is expected to re-appear around July 30 and will continue till July 31.
Hence, we can say that Monsoon has again revived in Odisha and the rest of July is likely to witness enough rain activities in the coming days. Hopefully, these rainfall activities will help in decreasing the rain deficiency which at present is marked at 32%. The experts have to say that the deficiency will then come somewhere near to 20%. With these rains, relief from very warm and humid weather conditions will be in sight.
Also, the experts have to say that if Odisha continues to get a good amount of rainfall in the next few days, the farming community will get good benefits from it.
