Monsoon rains in Kerala to pick up pace again

Good Monsoon rains over Goa, subdued over Kerala

Soon after Monsoon 2017 marked its onset over Kerala, the southern peninsular region of India has been receiving on and off thundershowers.With this, moderate to heavy spells occurred in most parts of Southern India. Extremely heavy showers were also recorded in a few states of Southern India.

However, the rainfall activity had been subdued over Kerala during the last 2-3 days. But now with fresh Monsoon surge, the intensity of rainfall is likely to pace up and intensify further. With, moderate to heavy showers may occur over Alappuzha, Kannur, Cochin and Kozhikode.

As per Skymet Weather, these moderate to heavy rainfall activities may continue to occur over Kerala during the next 24 to 48 hours. In fact in last 3 hours from 8:30 to 11:30 am on Saturday, Alappuzha has already recorded 19 mm of rainfall, followed by Kannur 9 mm, Kochi 6 mm and Kozhikode 5 mm.

Weathermen predict that on and off showers are expected to continue over Kerala though the intensity of rain will be light to moderate in next three to four days.

Since the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Kannur recorded 38 mm of rainfall, Kozhikode 24 mm, Alappuzha 13 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 10 mm, Karipur 8 mm, Cochin 5 mm, Thrissur 3 mm and Punalur 2 mm.

Thereafter, by June 14 the rainfall activity will reduce as subdued Monsoon conditions will prevail over the region.
