Monsoon rains to reduce over Jharkhand and West Bengal

Many parts of Jharkhand as well as West Bengal have been receiving good rains since past many days. In fact, the last 24 hours were also no dissimilar and both the states witnessed light to moderate rain and thundershowers.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, the city of dreams, Kolkata recorded rainfall of moderate intensity to the tune 23 mm, followed by Digha 21 mm, Burdhwan 20 mm, Jamshedpur 20 mm, Cooch Behar 19 mm, Krishanagar 19 mm, Bankura 16 mm, Diamond Harbour 10 mm, Midnapore 10 mm, Asansol 8 mm, Bokaro 6 mm and Ranchi 7 mm of light rain.

The reason for these showers can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough that was running close to the area. Now the trough has shifted southward and is moving across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh.

Consequently, the rainfall intensity will decrease and the weather will become humid with day temperature seeing an upward trend. Southeasterly moist winds will prevail over the region which will keep the trail of light rains for the next one to two days.

As on August 19, Jharkhand is rain surplus by 8% while West Bengal by 10%.
