Monsoon rains to reduce over Kochi, Alappuzha, Kannur after 24 hours

Monsoon rains to pick up pace along Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala

The state of Kerala has been witnessing good Monsoon rains. So much so that cities including Kochi, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kottayam have witnessed a few heavy spells in the past 48-72 hours. While rain intensity had reduced over the state a few days ago, good showers did pick up the pace in the past few days.

These weather conditions are attributed to the presence of the off-shore trough which is running along the West Coast from the Gujarat region up to the Kerala coast. Also, Monsoon surge is also active over the region giving good rains over some parts.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Kannur recorded a whopping 57 mm of rainfall, followed by Alappuzha where 38 mm of rainfall was witnessed. Other areas to have received good rains include Kochi 45.6 mm, Kottayam 17 mm, and Kozhikode 11.2 mm.

As per weathermen at Skymet, these showers are expected to continue for another 24 hours. However, rainfall activity is expected to reduce from the state as the persisting trough is likely to weaken and Monsoon surge will also not remain as active. However, rain activity is likely to continue over the rest of West Coast including Konkan and Goa as well as Coastal Karnataka for a few more days.
