Monsoon rains to reduce over Maharashtra

July 14, 2016 12:30 PM |

Monsoon rains to reduce over MaharashtraWhile June wasn’t the star performer for the state of Maharashtra, July brought in good news for the entire state. So much so that presently, all the areas of Maharashtra are observing excess rains.

Currently, Vidarbha is the best performer with 64 percent rainfall surplus. Also, rain deficient Marathwada has recorded good rains and stands at a rainfall surplus of 35 percent.

So far, during the month of July, good rains continued over almost all the areas of Maharashtra. Earlier, Madhya Maharashtra had received scattered light rain only but during last four to five days, rain intensity over the region has also witnessed a visible increase.

Places including Nashik, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara have received heavy to very heavy showers during this period.

Now, rainfall intensity is expected to decrease significantly over Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Marathwada. Weather conditions are likely to become almost dry over these areas. However, moderate showers will continue over Konkan and Goa but intensity of rains will also reduce over the region.

The cyclonic circulation which was giving good rains over the state has moved towards Uttar Pradesh. Also, the off shore trough along the West Coast has become less marked. Thus, Monsoon activity will remain subdued over most parts of the state until July 17. Thereafter, rains will pick up pace and light to moderate showers will commence July 18 onward.
