During the last 24 hours, the floods continued to damage several houses and buildings, breached river banks, damaged roads and swamped away many bridges. Until today, at least 225 animals have died in the Kaziranga National Park in Assam as the second wave of destructive floods lashed the state.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Tinsukia recorded 21 mm of rainfall, Jorhat 4.2 mm, Golaghat 3 mm and Lumding 1.4 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough which was seen running via Assam. Also, a cyclonic circulation is seen persisting over West Assam. Therefore, on and off light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected to continue over Assam and adjoining areas during the next 24 hours.

Now, as the axis of Monsoon trough is likely to shift towards the Central parts of the country.  Likewise, the cyclonic circulation is also expected to dissolve gradually. Due to this, on and off light to moderate Monsoon showers over Assam and adjoining areas may reduce significantly thereafter.

As these incessant rains lashed the state, floods continued to wreak havoc in Assam which reported 88 more deaths until today. Meanwhile, 4 more people lost their lives in Assam and approximately 19 lakh people have been suffering in 15 districts of the state.

Moreover, a sigh of relief in the lack of any major rainfall activity is now expected to prevail over the region. With this, the flood condition over the state is also likely to improve.
