Incessant rains situation alleged many deaths in Kolkata and adjoining districts since the last three to four days. The flood hit western districts of West Bengal continued to remain grim till Sunday. So much so that the West Midnapore district sought the help of the Indian Air Force, NDRF, SDRF and CRPF for rescue operations. Meantime, the situation continued to remain grim over Purulia, Birbhum and Bankura district of South Bengal.

Several areas in West Midnapore, Howrah, Hooghly, Bankura and West Burdwan districts of the state have been flooded due to incessant rains and thundershowers and allegedly due to release of water by the government organizations. Major rivers in South Bengal are retreating too. As of now, around 28 mortality cases have been reported from rain affected southern and western districts of the state.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a presence of several weather systems prevailing over the region. Due to this, moderate spells along with few heavy spells are possible to occur over the state. Though light rains also cannot be ruled out over Kolkata for the next 24 hours.

Hereafter, these rainfall activities are likely to decrease. So, the situation in the flood affected West Bengal is likely to improve gradually.
